Trichinella spiralis, potential model nematode for epigenetics and its implication in metazoan parasitism
The recent discovery of DNA methylation in the nematode T.spiralis may raise the possibility of using it as a potential model organism for epigenetic studies instead of C. elegans, which is deficient in this important epigenetic modification. In contrast to the free-living nematode C. elegans, T. spiralis is a parasitic worm that possesses a complicated life cycle and undergoes a complex develo...
متن کاملInfectivity of Trichinella Spiralis Larvae
Time of survival and infectivity of Trichinella spiralis larvae in pig muscle tissue, buried at various depths in the ground were assessed. In the pork pieces the number of infective larvae was 250 ML/g. Meat originated from pig halves was divided in 39 equal pieces, 0.7 kg each, disposed in three groups of 1 3, and buried in depths of 30, 50, and 100 centimeters respectively. The pork was dug ...
متن کاملBiology and genome of Trichinella spiralis.
Clade I nematode species in the genus Trichinella can cause infections in humans that lead to mortality and serious morbidity. There are currently eight recognized species or genotypes that comprise this genus. The species display diverse biological characteristics, the evolutionary significance of which recently has been extensively clarified. Some of that diversity translates into variable im...
متن کاملEosinophils and resistance to Trichinella spiralis
Mice infected with Trichinella spiralis were depleted of eosinophils by repeated administration of rabbit anti-mouse eosinophil serum. There was no effect on the spontaneous expulsion of adult worms from the small intestines, but the numbers of larvae in the muscles were almost doubled. It is concluded that eosinophils contribute to resistance to the systemic phase of trichinosis.
